i have had braces for about 5 months. and i had/ have a gap in the middle. my last appointment i got a chain across my top and bottom teeth. the bottom are fine. the gap i had in the center is closing and my gum is going on top of my teeth. will the gum move away after a while or will i have to get it removed or something?

I had braces for 7 years and this happened to me a couple of times. It should go away soon... maybe a couple of weeks. It%26#039;s your gums reaction to the teeth being adjusted... they are swelling, but it will go down eventually. I found keeping a good stock of advil around helped!

Reply:If you have a lot of excess tissue there they may have to
do a minor procedure on it to remove it. they would numb it
up and trim it away. Would be sore for a couple days, like
when you burn the roof of your mouth. No big deal.
Reply:Some medicines (like antidepressants) can cause this.
Reply:it could be because you aren%26#039;t flossing enough. not flossing = buildup of plaque = gum inflammation. talk to your orthodontist immediately
