I don%26#039;t understand... I have had braces since December 8th, which isn%26#039;t a long time, but my teeth have gotten much worse. In fact, I have two gaps right now that were not there before. My two front teeth are going apart, and so are the teeth next to them. What the heck? Is this normal or what?
Braces?!?! making teeth worse?
You have only had the braces on a very short time. I%26#039;m sure the office where you are being treated knows what they are doing. Orthodontics is done in stages. The first stage in orthodontics is to level and align the teeth and correct rotations. Spacing in the teeth is not addressed till much later. They should have explained to you that it may look worse to you before it looks better. That sometimes happens while the teeth are being repositioned for all the them to fit.
Reply:see your orthordontist...also check with another orthordontist he could not be a profesional make sure everythings ok...i had braces and i had a smal lgap and it didnt get bigger so check with him...you may even need elastics. good luck
Reply:Don%26#039;t worry about this... my braces came out a few months ago and some times my teeth made gaps as well. With your next visit they will %26#039;reverse%26#039; the procedure by pulling your teeth closer to each other. They will fix it, really nothing to worry about! Trust me.
Reply:yeh that happened to my friend, your otho might then use a chain sort of elastic thingo after and tighten them together to give you that nice smile and shape
Reply:I have the same thing but only on my front two teeth. I think this is normal, also my ortho has told me about this gap. so dont worry. Also they werent there 7 months ago.
Dont worry

Braces/ baby teeth?
i have permanent baby teeth. X rays show that i have no teeth growing underneath. If i get braces, can i keep my baby teeth without pulling them out?
Braces/ baby teeth?
It would probably depend on the orthodontist. Mine would put what they call a coil instead of a bracket on the baby tooth. Then if they knew for sure that you were never going to lose those teeth, they might try to fit a bracket on those teeth. If a bracket would not work, then my orthodontist would just stick to the coil. They don%26#039;t hurt, and the coils are fun to play with using your tongue. :]
Reply:Talk to your dentist, but the only reason I know for baby teeth being lost is because permanent teeth push them out.

Braces and teeth extractions?
I%26#039;ve had braces for a year and i still have an over bite. My orthodontist wants me to get all 4 of my wisdom teeth removed along with 2 of my premolars on top! I work around people all day long and I don%26#039;t want them to think I look like a meth head with missing teeth! How long does it take for them to shift back and will cause spacing or gaps in my front teeth?
Braces and teeth extractions?
Actually if you think about it, people only really see your front teeth. They don%26#039;t see the molars when you%26#039;re talking unless you show them on purpose.
Reply:it depends how tight they leave ur braces after they remove ur teeth.....i had 4 front teeth(the ones next to the buck tooths;up and down) removed and they shifte in like a week but with a lot of pain, the tighter ur braces, the faster the shiftment....

Plastic surgery vs. braces for teeth?
This is more of a survey question.
Survey Question!
How comparable is getting plastic surgery than getting braces for teeth?
A) There is a huge difference. Getting braces for teeth is normal because teeth were meant to be straight. Getting plastic surgery is fixing something that was meant to be undesirable.
B) I view it the same way. They are comparable. Getting plastic surgery and getting braces for teeth is just to look good. So in that sense they are indeed comparable.
C) I have my own opinion. This is what it is...(explain).
Pick A, B, or C.
If C, please explain.
Thanks.
Plastic surgery vs. braces for teeth?
I choose C. Straighter teeth can. improve oral health as well as appearance. Misaligned teeth can result in jaw problems later in life, for example.
Crowded teeth can be difficult or impossible to clean properly, which can lead to severe tooth and gum problems.
Reply:C. Braces do not need knive but plastic surgery need and putting on braces is not bloody but plastic surgery is bloody. Report It
Reply:B
Reply:Definately A for meeee

it is bad to have really crooked teeth.
also braces arent just for teeth they are for your jaw line. if your teeth are really messed up it can lead to mouth cancer or something because of the roots of your teeth rubbing together. and your teeth over lapping or growing wrong. and yes it can make you look better
Reply:B,
Reply:C) It depends if your teeth are really badly not strait and for plastic surgery it depends what your getting done but I think you dont need plastic surgery because i bet your very pritty the whay you are and you shouldent change that gust because you think you look weird or something

Braces & Grinding teeth?
Have had braces for a week tomorrow. and i grind my teeth readlly bad at night. and wake up and feel my teeth lose and moving around. Am i messing anything up ? could i use a mouth gaurd with braces? shld i tell my dentist?
Braces %26amp; Grinding teeth?
Thats so weird, I had the same problem, I thought it was just me. I felt like that for months to be honest. I think it%26#039;s your mouths way of fighting what is in your mouth. After a few months my mouth got used to it. I still once in a while wake up feeling like I have been grinding my teeth, but thats not too often. If your experiencing really bad grinding you might want to see your ortho and they might give you a mouth peace or something. I would give it to the end of the month.
Reply:you should tell your dentist about that.
Reply:Your teeth will feel slightly slack as they are moving they will feel like this till you get the brace removed. It dosnt sound problem to me but if you are worried there is no harm in asking your dentist. xxx :)
Reply:I just got braces put on and during the proceedure he actually said %26quot;You%26#039;ll notice when you move your lips over your teeth that they feel lose - don%26#039;t worry, this is normal.%26quot; But on your next tightening I would mention it anyways. Better to be safe than sorry!

DO BRACES MAKE TEETH WHITER? ...do they?
i have known two people who have had braces and their teeth were incredibly white once they took them off...i%26#039;m wondering if braces make teeth any whiter and how? Also when is the best age to get braces??
DO BRACES MAKE TEETH WHITER? ...do they?
they probably got their teeth whitened after getting them taken off.
Reply:No, it%26#039;s probably just being used to the darker color of the braces.
Reply:it could be that they got their teeth whitened after their braces were removed. My ortho asked me when i got my braces off if i wanted to have my teeth whitened in addition to the normal after removal cleaning at no additional charge.
Reply:When your about 10-15 is the best age to get braces!! and NO braces don%26#039;t make teeth whiter!!! It%26#039;s because you have to brush your teeth really well that your teeth become whiter!!!
Reply:I don%26#039;t see how the braces themselves would make their teeth whiter.
If that%26#039;s the case though, it might just be from the extra care one might have of their teeth while having braces. They%26#039;re undergoing expensive orthodontic treatment afterall, I doubt they%26#039;d neglect their teeth at that point.
That might turn into whiter than average teeth, with all the brushing and caring they probably perform.
Reply:No, the braces don%26#039;t make the teeth whiter. Since they do cover the teeth they may protect them from the day to day foods and drinks that cause stains ( such as: coffee, tea etc.). The best time to get braces is when you have lost all of your baby teeth and have grown in your adult teeth. So, the age will vary from person to person. Good luck to you.
Reply:NO braces do not make your teeth whiter, if any thing they can make them yellower. as they are harder to clean.
As for the best age, that depends on what the problems in your mouth are.
Go see your dentist for a good chat.
Reply:I have braces for about 2 years, but this year would be my last brace year! so excited! Actually it makes my teeth whiter than before(I really had a yellow teeth before, it is because I had a monthly appointment to my dentist, and every time I got her clinic, she cleans and brush my teeth, then put some fluid(I don%26#039;t know what it called) on my teeth.

Braces pushing teeth back!?
Okay, so I%26#039;ve had braces on my four front teeth for a year. I got 16 more on the rest of my teeth two days ago, and most of my teeth have shifted. However, 3 teeth on the bottom (In the front) were pushed back. 2 of them came up and aligned with the others, but the 3rd one is being pushed back! Not too significantly, just about 2 mm or so, and I don%26#039;t understand why. There is enough room to come up, but it wont budge! Can this be fixed? Please help! I%26#039;m very upset!
Braces pushing teeth back!?
better to discuss this matter with your orthodontist.... ask her treatment plan for your case...

Braces on teeth eaten by cavities?
i have 2-3 teeth eaten by cavities very less part of teeth are remaining, and on this thursday i will be visiting the dentist for my braces, what will he do to cover that teeth%26#039;s spaces?...
(these teeth are on the top right and left side of the mouth)...please reply as i am xtremely scared...thank u :)
Braces on teeth eaten by cavities?
usually i think they have to fix cavities before they will put braces on your teeth - at least that%26#039;s what happened with me - i had to get a filling done before they would do my braces.

Can you get braces on teeth that are cracked?
I%26#039;m 24 yrs old with an open bite and I need braces to correct it. I fell recently and cracked several of my teeth and now I%26#039;m not sure if I can get braces on the teeth that are cracked or if I will have to get crowns put on them to strengthen them for the braces. Please help!!!
Can you get braces on teeth that are cracked?
Yes you are going to have to get your cracked teeth fixed before you get braces, since your teeth are cracked they are extremely vulnerable to decay, putting braces on these cracked teeth will even heighten those chances of decay.
Plus if your teeth are cracked then the brackets will only move part of the your tooth.... better yet ... Ill save me explaining.. please just get the crowns first!!
Your orthodontist would be able to tell you whether or not, and why you would need to get the crowns before getting braces!
Reply:you should be able to..i dont see why it would be a problem

Braces: My teeth 'pop.' Is that normal?
I got braces a few weeks ago, now a few of my teeth %26#039;pop.%26#039;
I can press on them with my tongue and then they either pop back like they moved, or I suck in with lips closed and it pops in.
Is this just the gums loosening to allow the tooth movement? Or should I see my orothodontist about this?
Braces: My teeth %26#039;pop.%26#039; Is that normal?
Normal for my braces they were
Your teeth are moving and they may or may not be tender as they are being pushed all about dont worry
Make sure you keep up with you cleaning as teeth move gums and wilol leave them tender and vunerable to infections
Dont worry though they arent that vunerable.
Reply:That is normal. Try not to do that too much with your tongue. Mine got bad at first like that but now it%26#039;s been 18 months and either it got better or I just don%26#039;t notice it. It%26#039;s the bonds that hold your teeth in your jaw loosening, which they have to do for your teeth to move. It%26#039;s what is supposed to happen.

Braces and teeth pulling?
I just went to the dentist yesterday and she said that I will have to get two teeth pulled (still baby, i%26#039;m bad at getting teeth out) and after that, i%26#039;ll have to get braces. I have so many questions. If you could answer any, that would be great.
What do the do when the pull the teeth? Will it hurt? How do i get the teeth out before then?
What do getting the braces feel like when getting the on/ having them for a while? Do they hurt?
Thanks!
Braces and teeth pulling?
Well it depends if the teeth are loose, since they are baby teeth, then they will just pull the tooth right out, and if they are not they they will probably do local anesthetic to numb the area and pull them out. It won%26#039;t hurt too badly because they are still baby teeth but you might be a little swollen or sore.
Get braces is not that bad, the first week or so your teeth will be sore and you will feel that you cannot chew anything so you might not be able to eat a lot of chewy or solid foods (but this doesn%26#039;t happen to everyone so you might be lucky) also since there is something new and metalic in your mouth, you might get cuts on your cheeks that may happen while you are sleeping (but tthat didn%26#039;t really happen to me), but they give you this wax stuff that you put over the places that are cutting you so it doesnt rub against the inside of your mouth. But dont worry you will eventually get used to them, and it is all worth it in the end.
Reply:For the answer to you first question I have to say that if you get a good anastasia you will not feel any pain, however you will feel the pressure used on your tooth which may be a little discomforting for you, but overall it is not something that you should worry about.
To your second line of questions I would have to say that they are painful for the first few days but the pain is not sharp like a toothache but rather dull.
Reply:I had 4 teeth pulled before they put on my braces because I had a small mouth. He gave me a shot so it didn%26#039;t hurt. Putting on the braces was a little uncomfortable. It hurt for a few days after that and then when they were tightened but nothing some Tylenol can%26#039;t help. You%26#039;ll be fine!

Whitening teeth with Braces?
I have braces. My teeth are sort of turning yellow for no reason. I brush my teeth 4 times a day. I just dont want my teeth to have cavities or stains underneath. Is there any way i can make sure i dont have stains under my braces, and is there any way i can whiten my teeth with my braces on?
Whitening teeth with Braces?
Wow i feel really bad for you bud really, don%26#039;t use anything cuz when you have your braces taken off, if you ha ve used any whitening products, there will be like different colors for where your braces were covering your teeth. That%26#039;s just messed up. Just wait a while for your braces to be removed, then go whitening! Best wishes
Reply:i have the same problem. this is the second time ive had braces too, so it makes me really upset. my teeth will be double yellowed. if you are brushing your teeth 4 times a day, i doubt you will have any cavities, but they turn yellow from particles trapped in the braces that dont come off with brushing. dont whiten your teeth with the braces on, because that will look weird when you get them off. try flossing and just stick it out until you get the braces off.they scrape off the outer layer of your teeth when you get the braces off, which sometimes makes them a little whiter. also, right when you get them off, ust crest whitestrips, whitening toothpaste, whitening everything. i am going to do the same. good luck.

from what i understood, your teeth got straight but then got crooked again and you dont know if you%26#039;ll get your braces off?
im guessing your orthodontist has a plan for your teeth so just ask him when you will get them off, because if your teeth moved that much off course then you probably wont get them off in teh next two days

Can braces make teeth longer?
I used to have perfect teeth but a couple of years ago I chipped my front tooth and my dentist shaved them both of them down to match. Now my teeth appear too short and it%26#039;s very upsetting. I don%26#039;t want veneers because other then the legnth of my front teeth they are in good shape and I definitely don%26#039;t want them shaved down anymore then they%26#039;ve already been! I%26#039;m not sure about bonding because my dentist said that it wouldn%26#039;t last long on my front teeth.
So now I%26#039;m wondering if braces or a retainer could possibly help? Can braces pull teeth down further out of the gum to make them appear longer ( I%26#039;m only talkin like 1-2mm).
Can braces make teeth longer?
if its only a little bit more length your looking for then dont even think about braces! they hurt, and they are meant to straighten, not lengthen, your teeth. Try getting a special toothbrush from your dentist. one of the skinny ones used to stimulate your gums. it helps the stay at the proper size.
After you added more info:
you would certainly have to make an appointment with an orthodontist to see if it would be able to get braces. Some might say no mainly because your teeth do not need to be straightened.

Reply:yes, braces can pull teeth down, but you need to make sure that you have tooth to move down. what i mean is, your gum line hides the root of your tooth which is skinnier than the part of the tooth you actually see. my suggestion would be to have a consultation with an orthodontist, this is usually free of charge. they will let you know what options you may have. good luck.
Reply:no, braces aren%26#039;t meant to lengthen down the teeth. But, if your teeth tend to be up higher, such as your canine, in those cases, it can be used to lengthen the teeth. They can also lengthen the arch of your mouth to a wider rather than narrow size.
if you are looking into wanting lengthier teeth, you can consider getting cosmetic gum surgery, which will cut some excess gum tissue from above the teeth to make them appear larger.
Or instead of bonding, you can get veneers, which is a more sturdy and longer-lasting way than bondings, but costier.
ADDED INFO:
no,there is no effective way to pull your teeth down, that is rather a bad decision to do. Your teeth will come out of the socket, no procedures offer to pull your teeth down from a spot where they are already as far down as can be.
Reply:Are your teeth level? By this I mean that the central incisors are supposed to be a little bit longer than the lateral incisors. If the teeth are shorter, then, certainly, it would likely be OK to have the central incisors brought down a little bit.
There is a little bit of the crown that is covered by the gums. We lengthen teeth with braces all the time this way. However, if the teeth are already level, then the dentist should check how much of the gum is covering the crown. Sometimes teeth look short because there is too much gum covering the tooth. A simple procedure of shaping the gum with electrosurgery gives the appearance of a longer tooth.
It is really important that the dentist determines which of these procedures can be performed for you. If neither is an alternative, then veneers or lumineers is your only other choice.

Braces in teeth?
I am having free Braces to my teeth but i am really scared about it. Does it have any long term effects after i get my braces out. Also the dentist want me to take 4 teeth out. D u think i should go for braces or leave my teeth tangled? Please help me decide my future.
Braces in teeth?
Braces don%26#039;t cause recession. Braces work just as well if not better than invisalign. Extractions are sometimes a necessary part of having braces. Your gums will not get messed up from braces as long as your brush and floss properly! Even if you have invisalign you would still have to wear a retainer after wards. The retainer stabilizes your roots. You normally have to wear it full time for 3 months and then you go to night time wear. It%26#039;s really not that big of a hassle. I highly recommend braces. I think you will be glad that you got them. Don%26#039;t be scared! Go for it!! I think you will regret it more if you don%26#039;t do it!
Reply:Having braces is tough, Im not going to sugar coat it. But I think all the pain is worth it at the end when youve got nice, straight teeth. Its best to get it as young as possible, so I suggest you get it soon. Its your choice, but you might regret not getting them if you decide not to. Good luck! =)
Reply:I had 4 teeth out and a brace on the NHS as my teeth were quite bad, they just do it to give the teeth more room to move and the gaps is closed naturally over time so don%26#039;t be worried about being left with a gap in your teeth. I had to wear one for 2 years and everytime it was tightened it hurt. You get used to it after a couple of weeks, but you will feel self concious for while you wear them, but it is all worth it as i now have great teeth and take really good care of them! I love to smile now, before I always used to put my hand in front of my mouht when i smiled. It is worth it, please do it!
Reply:If your teeth are really crooked, yes get the braces... sounds like your mouth is too small for the size of your teeth.
In the long run you will have less dental problems if you get this taken care of now.
Go for it sweetie....
Reply:No, braces have no long term effects becides straiter teeth! dont worry you will be fine! i%26#039;ve had my braces of for 6 years without any problems!
Reply:ok i had 4 teeth removed and braces when i was a teen... I will say it is painful as they have to tighten them up leaving you unable to eat any food that takes much chewing! and they do dig into your gums which can be painful at times... And with relation to actually having the teeth removed thats not painful/as bad as you%26#039;d imagine.
However saying that i am so glad i had them, i now have perfectly straight teeth and it was worth all the downsides to having to have those braces for 2 years!
I say do it and dont be too scared as it really won%26#039;t be as bad as you think it will be and it the time that you have them for goes so quickly.
good luck :-)
Reply:Both my Daughters have had braces,they have both had to have 4 teeth out, they have caused them no problems at all, they loved picking what colour to have on their braces next visit, { by the way , they are both teenagers }
Reply:Well i have just recently had braces, I miss them, i wish i still had my braces. They ache a bit when they first put them on and then take them off. It is worth it to it makes such a difference and taking teeth out doesnt really hurt and i get hurt really easily. After they take your braces off they give you a retainer which you have to wear everyday for the first month then every other day. i was meant to have mine on for 1 year but it was only because i brushed proberly but the thing is i didnt stop eating the things i liked i just carried on as normal and it did not affect them at all. Just remeber to brush your teeth twice a day and then it should be fine. When i first got my braces or when i was going to get them i was really like you, at 13 not really like getting hurt and not wanting metal in my mouth and not being able to have chewing gum it really has paid off and if anyone is scared of having braces DONT BE i wish i still had them so thank you to my orthadentist... Can i just say this is like a briliant question to ask lmao!!!
Reply:I second the recommendation to investigate Invisalign. I have them and am pretty happy - they cost me less, and they offer more freedom.
I also had to have four teeth removed - it was a pretty good experience because I reallly enjoyed the anesthesia. I was as high as a kite for the rest of the day.
Reply:im coming to the end of almost 18 months in braces and i have to say it has gone by quite quickly. i am so excited as i know my teeth are perfectly straight and you cant beat that feeling. its not uncommon for dentist to remove teeth for braces so trust him/her they really know what they are doing. you have to understand its a long haul and sometimes fustrating but arent all the good things in life? please do it its worth it in the long run!!! good luck
Reply:Don%26#039;t be scared. My mom made me get braces when I was a teenager. I didnt%26#039; know what they were and boy am I glad I got them! They did pull teeth out. The reason why is to make room for the dentist to make your teeth straight. I remember my orthodontist saying that I had too many teeth in my mouth. They took about 8 out... yes I have a small mouth.
And yes it does hurt. But it%26#039;s worth every bit. Your teeth will be nice and straight. You can%26#039;t eat candy or gum because it%26#039;ll get stuck in the braces. I%26#039;ve seen people chew gum even with braces but it%26#039;s very bad because you can break the brace or the metal wire. YOu%26#039;ll end up going to the dentist and end up fessing up that you did something you shouldn%26#039;t have.
Also with the first post, she%26#039;s wrong. Yes you have a retainer afterwards but it%26#039;s because a retainer holds the teeth together. After taking out the braces your teeth are very sensitive. A very good time for teeth to move back to the old way, which may be why she has spaces on her teeth and has to redo her braces by invisalign. Invisalign is a bad idea because yes you don%26#039;t see the brace. It is invisible. But because you have the alignersthat are removable, you aren%26#039;t continually correcting your teeth. Also since you%26#039;ve got to remove them before eating... then brush your teeth and then put the invisalign back on. it just seems a whole lot of trouble for something that may or may not work.
Do the braces. Research your orthodontist, make sure he or she is good. If you get them, you will be happy with the after effects. I love that my teeth are straight. I am so grateful for them. All the pain was worth it. Also with being scared, don%26#039;t be. It%26#039;s nothing to be afraid of.
Reply:I had to have 7 teeth out when i got my braces so think yourself lucky!! (some were baby teeth even though I%26#039;m 18)
I hate having braces... i think its awful, and they do hurt like hell when you 1st get them.. and every time you go to the orthodontist (because mines rough and i hate him)
But i guess its up to you... i choose to have braces because i couldn%26#039;t smile without people looking weirdly at my teeth... i couldn%26#039;t smile on photos...
so i guess if you want wonkey teeth for the rest of your life then dont get them...if you want straight teeth get them!
Reply:I think you should. I didn%26#039;t have to pull out any teeth event though there was a lot of crowding. It will open more jobs to you in the future. Good luck with your decision.
Reply:I would have the braces you will feel really good about yourself when you have beautiful straight teeth
Reply:i also had braces (which is now 6 years ago ... WOW time flies) lol ^.
it really does work. tho ok, its hard to get used to them cutting your mouth etc, but you do get used to them%26amp; you just need to be extra careful not to break them, or eat really hard foods or drink bad drinks *fizzy stuff, is bad for braces*
but good luck, xx : )
Reply:Go the braces. Seriously, whatever it takes - straight teeth are a great option. Take it from a twisted toothed over 50 whose parents couldn%26#039;t afford it and I can%26#039;t either. What wouldn%26#039;t I give for that option. Good luck, it%26#039;ll be worth it.
Reply:I wouldnt do it. Look into invislign. I had braces at 32-34 My gums are messed up from the recession and the space between the teeth widened. It also cost me alot of money.
My friend had invislign with alot better results, they also want you to wear a retainer for years afterwards, I never wear mine.

Getting braces/Bad teeth?
Im 17 I have really crooked teeth on my bottom jaw.
My top teeth are more un-alligned. One sticks out in the front, and the teeth behind it allign with it. I guess my main question is- Under which circumstances braces would not work? I have all my teeth, and I have like 9 fillings. Possibly 3 cavities. How long do they take to make your teeth straight also.
Getting braces/Bad teeth?
Braces will not work if there is no space, the dentist will want to remove some teeth. Details at http://aches.in/dentalbraces.html

Getting braces and whiting teeth???
ok so im 15 and never been to the dentist of any kind my mom thinks i need braces. my teeth are really yellow. so before i wnet to the orthadonist i want them to be white theefor i want to have them cleend but i go and have them cleend will do anything else but cleen cuase thats all i want them to do and do they have to give you shots and does it hurt. question number two. braces do they hurt. when they put them on do i need to have all my baby teeth pulled and if i do does that hurt. three months before you get your braces what did you have to do to prepare them for braces. do you have to get anyshots in your mouth do they hurt tell me everything you know about both questions. THANKS ALOT!!!!!!!!!!
Getting braces and whiting teeth???
First whiten your teeth. Commercial tooth whiteners use hydrogen peroxide and are expensive and inconvenient. A cheap and natural tooth whitening home remedy uses few strawberries but certain precautions have to be taken. I found the information at http://www.aches.in/toothwhitening.html
Reply:I%26#039;m a little bothered by the fact that at 15 you%26#039;ve never been to a dentist. First things first .. you need a regular dental check up. They%26#039;ll clean your teeth and take some x-rays to see if you have any cavities. No shots involved in this phase. It%26#039;s easy and painless.
If you have any cavities, those will need to be filled. Yes, that involves a shot. It%26#039;s quick and the numbing agent works fast. They%26#039;ll drill out the decay and pack in the filling and you%26#039;re done. Piece of cake. It%26#039;s only a little uncomfortable getting the shot. The rest is painless.
As far as braces are concerned, no shots are involved in that process. They%26#039;ll take molds of your teeth to plan your course of treatment. You%26#039;ll have brackets and bands applied, then wires. You%26#039;ll have monthly visits with your orthodontist to adjust the tension in the wires. You%26#039;ll occassionally recieve rubber bands or wedges. Orthodontics can be uncomfortable, but nothing that a little motrin won%26#039;t relieve. The benefits of a great smile make it so worth the time and discomfort.
Whitening can be done in many ways. You can use whitening toothpastes and whitening strips, purchased at the store. They are somewhat effective. You can have your teeth bleached. It is a bit pricey, and you don%26#039;t want this done too often as it can damage the enamel, I think. I think the best whitening option is where they actually paint a coating on the enamel. I don%26#039;t know exactly what it is called, but it is really expensive. The Brite White or something similar to that name is the popular whitening option in our area. Costs between $600 and $1000. Not covered by insurance as it is cosmetic.
Oral health care is important. Please see a dentist for some basic cleaning prior to orthodontics or whitening options. :-)
Reply:imma dental assistant. common procedures that will require a shot are root canals, fillings, or getting your tooth pulled. it doest hurt. first, they will apply a %26quot;topical anesthetic%26quot; which is a gel that they will put on top of your gums so that when they give you your %26quot;local anesthetic%26quot; (da shot), it wont hurt.
Braces are not much of a pain. they will only get annoying when they tighten it every now and then. however, you could only get braces once all of your baby teeth are gone. you could either wait till all of your baby teeth are gone, or you could have the doctor to pull dem out (costing more $$$).
u dont really have to do anything 3 months before u get braces. probably 1-2 months before, the doctor might put spacers between your two molars so the braces could fit. nd no, shots are generally not needed wen getting braces. braces are simply brackets and wires being cemented on to your teeth. hope this helps.

Braces and teeth extractions? Orthodontist or people with braces?
Ok so I am getting braces tomorrow but I have to get teeth extractions after I get them on! I haven%26#039;t really heard of this because most people get the teeth extracted weeks before! My orthodontist is really really good but I don%26#039;t know if I trust him on this! I have to get 4 teeth pulled (you cant see it when i smile!) because 2 teeth on the bottom dont have adult teeth growing under it so he also has to take the ones on the top out! Can someone please help me?! I think it is because of the baby tooth that doesn%26#039;t haven%26#039;t anything growing under it I definetly don%26#039;t have any crowding it%26#039;s just those baby teeth, my gap, and a small overbite
Braces and teeth extractions? Orthodontist or people with braces?
I have the same thing, I have had ma braces for 9 months and 8 months l8r i have to have my tooth taken out, which was really annoying. And the tooth extractions hurt. I think u have to trust ur ortho on this one. The teeth ma dentist took out were all adult teeth.
Dont worry
Good Luck
Reply:My daughter just got her braces in Aug, and they went a head and put her braces on then decided that she need 4 teeth pulled. Everything was fine, in fact it went very well. I guess its common to put on the braces and if teeth need to be pulled its fine to do. Sometimes they put the braces on first and see how the teeth move around and if they need room for the teeth to move they will pull them and its usually the ones behind the eye teeth because people don%26#039;t need those teeth as much.
Reply:I just had two teeth pulled, and I%26#039;ve had braces for a couple years. I was sent to a specialist in %26quot;children%26#039;s%26quot; densitry beause I have braces, and the man was an idiot. Since your orthodonist is having you get your teeth out while you have your braces, don%26#039;t go to the person he suggests.
Reply:The person who usually extracts your teeth is your dentists, or your orthodontist could do it also.
As for the pain, you%26#039;re not going to feel anything because you are going to be numb, but after the procedure it might hurt a little so take some pain relievers like Advil etc.
Good luck.
Reply:I also had four teeth pulled after my braces were on. Trust the ortho because my teeth came out perfect.

Braces and teeth discolouration help?
i got braces a week ago and 3 days ago and they were fine for a while. The yesterday i think after eating or brushing one of my front big tooth (you know the one) on the upper jaw became really achy and sentative and hurt alot when i touched it. Then today after lunch it happened with my other front big tooth on the top jaw and now tonight they both are really sensative. Whats happened?
And also about my teeth discolouration. They are slightly yellow with bits of really white flecks on the sides of my teeth that are, whilst small, kinda unattravtive and i was wondering if is there some way to get rid of these after my braces treatment? Because yeah if im going to get straight teeth through braces im kinda thinking it wont be worth it because i will have oddly coloured teeth as a end product and it wont look any more attractive. So yeah is there a way to get white, evenly coloured teeth that is permanent? Please help =)
Braces and teeth discolouration help?
Yeah the same thing happened to me. If you have bands on it make sure it didnt fall off cause that can be the cause. You also may have been brushing to hard or maybe with the wrong brush. remember to brush with the braces brush, brush not too hard and in circularr motions. If it was the food i would lay off chomping down on the hard foods or biting reall hard take it in small steps..thats what im learning from braces:DD
As for the discoloration to make sure it isnt too stained while you have the braces and after you have to brush for 2 miuites with the proper brrrush making sure you get rid of the food and plaque in it..this is part of the cause of the yellowness. Secondly a good iddea would be a teeth whitening. Thats the only one i can think of. I will be getting this after my braces. If its too expensive or you just dont wanna do it thrrough youre dentist i reccomend nightly whitening gel and whitening strips that can be found in most drug stores. You probably wont need this till after the braces tho. It gives it an even colour and youre teeth will be looking straight and shiny! lol had to add that :P hope this helps phewph =0
Reply:I%26#039;ve had braces for about eight months now.
My braces went yellow after I had chicken noodles.
Because of the flavor and some days teeth just hurt, there isn%26#039;t always a reason.
Also after you get you%26#039;re braces off most dentists offer free teeth whitening.
Look after you%26#039;re braces, the better you look after them. The sooner you get them off.
Reply:The purpose of the brace is to realign your teeth, so they are constantly under stress from the brace. So I%26#039;m afraid you will be stuck with the pain. Every time you go to have the brace adjusted it will hurt. Sorry
As for the discoloration, cut out tea and coffee and don%26#039;t eat curries. Brush your teeth after every meal and floss regularly. When your brace comes off you will have pristine white teeth
Reply:Go back to your dentist they may be on to tight.
Oh and get a electric toothbrush as well it will do a better job
My grandson had to use a red dye before he brushed his teeth that way he knew if he had don%26#039;t it right
Or get some sensitive toothpaste
Reply:Commercial tooth whiteners use hydrogen peroxide and are expensive and inconvenient. A cheap and natural tooth whitening home remedy uses few strawberries but certain precautions have to be taken. I found the information at http://www.aches.in/toothwhitening.html
Reply:when they remove your braces, they cut off the metal pieces which are glued onto your teeth. then they kinda grind your teeth to get rid of any left over glue which makes your teeth really smooth. then they polish your teeth to make them even smoother and to help whiten your teeth
Reply:Well for the discloration most orthodontists offer free whitening when you get your braces off. But if yours doesn%26#039;t you can always go and have them bleached somewhere else. I have the same exact problem as you and my ortho just happens to be one of those places that offers it free.
You may have been brushing too hard, you could have bent the wire, or you may have loosened up a bracket. Or it could just be because the braces are doing their job. If you are really concerned you can go see your orthodontist.

I have gap in my front teeth. im 17 and it bothers me now. should i get braces or veneers?
my bite is fine. its just that i have space in my front teeth. braces could close them but its expensive and takes a long time. veneers would be instant but im afraid that it would look fake. what should i get?
I have gap in my front teeth. im 17 and it bothers me now. should i get braces or veneers?
You are still young, get braces b/c they will also aid in repelling any future perio dz and be easier to clean throughout your life. Also, for veneers to be applied, tooth structure needs to be taken away and it also gives plaque a place to hide out at the gumline leading to perio disease. I had braces at 17...not as bad as it sounds just remember to wear your retainer at night always!!!
Reply:If it were me I would try the invisalign braces. I%26#039;ve heard veneers can be uncomfortable at first and have a chance of breaking in the future. Sometimes a gap is cute...so make sure your not trading cuteness for vanity ;)
Reply:I think that the long term effects would be much better with braces. You probably haven%26#039;t gotten all of your wisdom teeth, and if you get veneers, your wisdom teeth will get crowded, make your teeth crooked, and you will more than likely have problems. Wisdom teeth are painful if they don%26#039;t grow in right. Another thing, It%26#039;s a good possibility that when your wisdom teeth come in, they may just push your front teeth together. Good luck!
Reply:If you are a girl I think you should keep the gap because it is cute. Just look at Madonna.
Reply:Get he invisalign braces. That will fix it permamently. With veneers, they only last up to 10 years and cost around $1,000 to $1,500 per tooth.

Why is there gum coming over my front teeth? --braces?
i have had braces for about 5 months. and i had/ have a gap in the middle. my last appointment i got a chain across my top and bottom teeth. the bottom are fine. the gap i had in the center is closing and my gum is going on top of my teeth. will the gum move away after a while or will i have to get it removed or something?
Why is there gum coming over my front teeth? --braces?
I had braces for 7 years and this happened to me a couple of times. It should go away soon... maybe a couple of weeks. It%26#039;s your gums reaction to the teeth being adjusted... they are swelling, but it will go down eventually. I found keeping a good stock of advil around helped!
Reply:it%26#039;s O.k. my gums have always been like that so don%26#039;t worry
Reply:If you have a lot of excess tissue there they may have to
do a minor procedure on it to remove it. they would numb it
up and trim it away. Would be sore for a couple days, like
when you burn the roof of your mouth. No big deal.
Reply:Some medicines (like antidepressants) can cause this.
Reply:it could be because you aren%26#039;t flossing enough. not flossing = buildup of plaque = gum inflammation. talk to your orthodontist immediately

My 8 year old son has huge front teeth, Braces???
My son%26#039;s 2 front teeth are large and have a wide gap in the middle. He is all teeth!!!! when can he get some early intervention to close the gap? is there anything like braces/spacers that are available. His first trip to a dentist was a nightmare for him however the dentist said%26quot; I hope you are putting pennies in a jar, he will need braces%26quot; anyhow he didnt offer any further advice and he was so rude to us that I will never go to him again!
Any suggestions would be great!
My 8 year old son has huge front teeth, Braces???
I would take him to an orthodontist who is more sensitive and use to being with children especially when it comes to braces. Most insurance companies cover braces with those who are that young if you or your significant other have insurance through work. Check with human resources. It%26#039;s a shame that his dentist was that rude, I certainly would not go back to that one. You might want to ask your neighbors who have children what dentist they use instead of picking another dentist at random. A good dentist will recommend an orthodontist. Good luck!
Reply:get him some grillz...braces cost 5 grand..grillz will only cost about 3
Reply:yes, try braces.... it%26#039;s very important since your sons appearance will probably affect quite a load of things going on in his life.. people should put braces on whe they%26#039;re young
Reply:probably will need braces - most kids do - HOWEVER.... see a new dentist because i hate rude ones as well... and have your dentist check the flap of skin (i dont remember what it is called) between the 2 top teeth that connects from the gum to the upper lip. my daughter had a huge gap also making it appear to be like buck teeth and it keep growing bigger. when she was in second grade, the dentist said to take her to an oral surgeon to have it removed because that was what was preventing her teeth from growing in closer. by 5th grade, the gap was completely closed. she is now in 9th grade and has braces but for a different reason. this is not always the answer for the gap but many times it is. so ask. the procedure cost about 300.00 back then so prob a little more now but was just done with some novacaine and a little laughing gas cause she was scared. a few stitches too. my youngest daughter also has a gap but not for that reason. which it was cause it was simple to fix. check it out and good luck.
Reply:how huge because its normal until all his adult teeth come in for them to be larger or they could even be his adult teeth and hes face will grow to fit them

How can i fake teeth braces?
I%26#039;m dressing up as Ugly Betty for a birthday party and my fancy dress shop does not sell fake teeth with braces. i%26#039;ve tried the internet but no joy. the party is in 2 weeks... any ideas?
How can i fake teeth braces?
see donna d%26#039;s reply... or call into Screenface in london (they also have a website) they specialise in this kind of stuff or may be able to advise you as to what else you could use...
Reply:take a piece a wire like buy some from a craft store and buy like the color silver then string some beads on it and wrap it around ur mouth
Reply:Well this is a really stupid idea of mine but i thought i%26#039;d share..
when i was at primary school we used to pretend we had braces by straightening out paper clips and bending them around our teeth. They looked quite convincing but dug into the wearers gums ..hence it was a dangerous and bad thing to do.
However if there was a way to soften or round off the ends of the paper clip, it would make great braces!
Reply:Take a piece of wire (or unraveled paperclips) and just wrap it around your teeth. But try to put something at the ends of them so they don%26#039;t poke your gums!
Reply:Dunno. But dont try any of thes stupid suggestions of wrapping paperclips around your teeth. How stupid can someone be? Could be very dangerous. Urgh
Reply:Why not wear an Ugly Betty mask. Much safer than shoving steel into your mouth.
Reply:Have you ever tried fishing ?
Fishermen use metal weights to clip around the nylon fishing wire and weigh it down. Using this technique, use an elastic, clip these on it, and wrap the elastic around your teeth.
Never tried it myself, but I was told by someone that this is what they once did to fake braces.
Other option, ask your dentist :-)

How do i fix my canine teeth? Braces...or retainers, what other options do i have? HELP!?
I REALLY REALLY HATE MY TEETH!!
A few months ago i got my baby canine teeth pulled out coz my adult ones were growing through my upper-gum. But now my adult canines are way too high and make me look gappy and chipmonk...ish. GRRRR!
I hate smiling and find it hard to give ppl eye contact when i speak becoz its so embarrassing!! Its taking away all my self confidence. My parents dont particually want me to get braces...or even see a orthadontist seen as they dont think they%26#039;ll be able to do anything (like put braces on) coz my teeth are so high in my gums. They dont understand just how much they worry me.
Plz plz plz give me any ideas or advice. Thankyou XX
How do i fix my canine teeth? Braces...or retainers, what other options do i have? HELP!?
Ask your parents to just take you for a ONE TIME CONSULTATION with an orthodontist. That way they can find out what exactly CAN be done, and make an informed decision.
Reply:Explain to your parents that braces have changed alot. Firstly an appointment with an orthodontist is good or even a functional orthodontist is better. If your parents feel that they are concerned with the price go for a consultation with a dentist who has been doing orthodontics for a few years.
The options for treatment depends on the amount of crowding that you have. We generally try to go as far possible non extraction. Use functional appliances to expand the arch and create space. If the crowding is very bad then self ligating type of braces are able to create space as well as move the teeth. You must be approximately 13-15 years of age. With non-extraction orthodontics you get a wider smile and you dont get a spoon shape (sunken-in ) face. At this age it is easier to get a better result becuase you are able to work with the growing child.Although orthodontics can be done at any age.
Good Luck

I have the same exact problem. when i close my mouth it makes my face look funny and when i smile its so ucky lol. but tell your parents that braces will help. because im getting them and the dentist lady er whatever said that its gunna change my face profile and everything. But another way if youre parents refuse iz...... well i tried pushing my teeth every 5 minutes real hard to the place i wanted them and suprisingly in like 3 weeks u%26#039;ll see a small difference. so just keep doing that

Teeth braces, etc?
well, i am ana aspiring dentist. ( exciting i know)
1. I need to know what you think is the average age to get braces is.
2.describe what your teeth are like. ( be honest nobody knows you)
thnks, big help to my projet.
Teeth braces, etc?
um okay well i got braces for 11 months when i was 7 and then got braces again 5 years later and have had them on for 5 months... my teeth are a little crooked in the bottom but not that much and theyre very white
Reply:Well i just got my spacers in about 1 and 1/2 weeks ago and im 12 the ortho didnt tell me when i was going to get my braces he say that he still need to do some meusure in my mouth because im going to get this thing that expands my top jaw but the orth dont know when i get my braces :)
on my top teeth my sharp one are really high up and people look at them and call me a vampire i call them vamprie teeth
my bottem ones are alomst alike my sharp teeth on the bottem are really lowm low so yeahh
i have really really bad crooked teeth :)
Reply:i think the average age for getting braces is when your adult teeth start to settle in, because the teeth are new and when you get braces your teeth are more likely to move faster.
my teeth are perfectly straight and i%26#039;m getting them off it two weeks!

my bottem ones are alomst alike my sharp teeth on the bottem are really lowm low so yeahh
i have really really bad crooked teeth :)
Reply:i think the average age for getting braces is when your adult teeth start to settle in, because the teeth are new and when you get braces your teeth are more likely to move faster.
my teeth are perfectly straight and i%26#039;m getting them off it two weeks!

Lingual (behind the teeth braces)?
can someone please tell me about the braces that are put in behind your teeth? my only options for my specific bite are the actually braces (metal and ceramic) and i think ceramic look wierd and stain easily. i want the metal ones, but is putting them behhind the teeth a good route? i am a sophomore in highschool.
Lingual (behind the teeth braces)?
Not every orthodontist does lingual braces. An orthodontist needs special training to do linguals. So, you should check and see if your orthodontist can do it for you.
If you want to know what it%26#039;s like to live with lingual braces, come over to our Metal Mouth Message Board and read our Lingual Braces forum.
If you wind up getting regular metal brackets, really it%26#039;s not so bad. Lots of students your age get them. It%26#039;s great that you%26#039;re getting them now. I never had braces when I was young and wound up getting them at age 41. Believe me, it%26#039;s much better to get them when you are young -- because after they come off, you%26#039;ll have beautiful teeth for the rest of your life.
Just remember: wear your retainer afterwards...not just for the first year, but for many years....or you will be back in braces again later!
Reply:Don%26#039;t do it- Your tongue can and will get cuts and sores from the metal constantly rubbing against it. I have ceramic braces and have had them for 8 months- I brush after every meal and they are not stained at all! Talk to your orthodontist about invisaline as well- you might be a candidate for that, if not, go with ceramic. I%26#039;ve had no problems whatsoever, I think they stain %26#039;cause people don%26#039;t brush good enough.

Teeth braces... help!?
I%26#039;ve just put on teeth braces and I cried a lot about it because I think I look like an idiot with them! Has anyone been in a similar situation? Please, help me because I am afraid of going between people...
Teeth braces... help!?
The only reason you think you look like an idiot is because you aren%26#039;t used to seeing yourself like that. I%26#039;ve had two sets of braces, and I know what you are going through. All my friends have braces as well. When one of them got braces I thought they looked like idiots...but after a few weeks...it seemed like they grew into them. It%26#039;s like when people get glasses. After a few months of having them, when they take them off, they look like idiots as well.
Trust me, what you are going through is normal. And you probably don%26#039;t look like an idiot. Although I don%26#039;t know you, you are probably perfect just the way you are.
Reply:dont worry about it, you get used to them. nobody will think any differently of you than they do without braces.
Reply:get invisiline
Reply:When I first got braces I thought I looked really geeky too. But you seem to adapt to it, and people you know. Just keep in mind, when you get them off you%26#039;re teeth will be really nice. I%26#039;ve had braces on for a little over a year, and I get them off in about 6 months. =/ Hope you feel better soon. :]
Reply:Nowadays no one really notices if you have braces or not. At first, they%26#039;ll ask you to smile so they can see them, and the worst thing that can happen is they might crack a few harmless jokes, but after the first day they get over it. But if you%26#039;re still in grade school or high school, chances are alot of your friends have them on still.
And if someone who has crooked teeth with no braces tries to make fun of you, just say you%26#039;d rather have braces than look like them. =)
Be comfortable, and confident because the results are worth it!
Reply:No. Braces are quite common and no one looks like an idiot. I see people who care about their looks.
Reply:Don%26#039;t be so self-conscious. if you%26#039;ve invested the money and time to get them on, let it do its job and create a better, healthier smile. it will all be worth it in the end. as long as you maintain good oral health care, then you%26#039;ll have a beautiful and clean smile. there are so many people that have braces, that i%26#039;m sure you%26#039;re just being insecure for superficial reasons. i%26#039;m an orthodontic assistant and put them on people all the time, and i think it looks really great on them. i don%26#039;t know you, but i%26#039;m sure your braces look great. they always do...
and i have no idea what you mean by %26quot;going between people%26quot;
Reply:I know exactly how you feel i just got home from getting braces FOR THE SECOND TIME and now like last time i have to have them on for three years (so until junoir year) lucky me two days before my birthday and I look horrible I%26#039;m going to die of embarresment uuuuuughhh well good luck to both of us!

Teeth braces ? please help?
ok Im 26yrs old I have some spaces between some of my teeth in the lower jaw, and the upper jaw teeth need to be lined up ..
Can I start my braces in india and then continue here in the states . cause over there the whole process is like 1000 but here is like 6000 but the thing is, it takes up to 2 yrs and i cant live there for 2 yrs or keep going back and forth .. so what do you guys think ?
Teeth braces ? please help?
I understand exactly what you mean...you would need to speak to a dentist in the states to make sure they can adjust and do what they need to do at the check-ups. I assume the equipment etc would be the same. But I would do some research on it because if it%26#039;s not possible it could end up costing you a fortune. I would definitely find out though you could also save yourself heaps.
I know my sister travelled overseas for a year when she had braces, So she must of had to get them adjusted etc while she was away.
Reply:do it in one place. going back and forth is too hard, only if u cant afford to go back once a month, cuz they check it once a month.
Reply:you could, but you would have to talk to both of them. and it will be hard to find one (plus one) that would do it for you, your payment will cost MORE, than if u sticked to one
Reply:Its Rs. 18000 over here in india... Yeah it does take 2 years...but i believe its even mo expensive abroad... And i thought no matter what... braces need time ...atleast a year and a half... but anyways if u cant live here for 2 years then i dont think u have a choice
Reply:Ok, if you live in India just for your braces, it%26#039;ll be more expensive than doing it here. so just stay here, get your braces here.
Reply:Sure it%26#039;s just like going to another doc. just see a dentist when you get here , they%26#039;ll take you , and continue your care ,no problem .
Reply:you must do it in one place becasue you need to go back to that same dentist. good luck p.s they hurt alot!!! be prepared for pain!

How do teeth braces help pulling teeth to position?
Teeth braces are used for orthaodontic treatment. I just see a few bridges and a wire running over them. To pull the teeth to position, an incremental tension is necessary to constantly exert a force on the teeth every time it comes to a better position. Does the wire contract? or is there any other mechanism in it that pulls teeth to the required position?
How do teeth braces help pulling teeth to position?
There are two basic kinds of arch wire used in braces. One is rigid and the other is flexible. Either one is formed into the %26quot;ideal%26quot; arch form for the patient. The brackets are put on the teeth in such a position that once the teeth are drawn to the arch wire by elastics, they will be in proper alignment. The orthodontist may not be able to start out with the %26quot;final%26quot; arch wire and will have to use a few intermediate arch wires to accomplish the desired movement in stages. The flexible wires don%26#039;t work too different from the rigid wires, but they have memory of their original shape and will help provide some of the active force required to move the teeth, so you may not need as many arch wire changes.
Reply:Terse??? Your question wasn%26#039;t exactly prosaic... Report It
Reply:Dont KNOW
Reply:They tighten the wire when you go see them.
Reply:Dental braces (also known as orthodontic braces or brackets) are a fixed appliance used in orthodontics to correct alignment of teeth and their position with regard to bite. Braces are often used to correct malocclusions such as underbites, overbites, cross bites and open bites, or crooked teeth, or goofy teeth and various other flaws of teeth and jaws, whether cosmetic or structural. They can be used on either upper or lower sets of teeth, or both, depending on the problem they are being used to treat. Orthodontic braces are often used in conjunction with other orthodontic appliances to widen the palate or jaws, create spaces between teeth, or otherwise shape the teeth and jaws. Most orthodontic patients are children or teenagers; however, more and more adults are seeking out orthodontic treatment
Reply:naw they orthodontists put in a tighter wirer each time you visit them and it pulls and holds the teeth together.
i just got mine off last year thank the lord!
Reply:It help doctors withdraw money from the insurance companies and deposit them in their bank account.
Reply:well when i had braces the more straight my teeth got they would take off the plastic color thing and they%26#039;ll take out the wire depending on how bad your teeth are an then they%26#039;ll put in another one in and they%26#039;ll put new elastic color thingies on and cut the excess wire in the back and in some way or fashion they always ended up a wole lot tighter htan before. and i dont think there is any other mechanism to it.
Reply:The wire doesn%26#039;t contract - as I recall, the wire is basically a fixed length, but then you go in every few weeks and they tighten that wire (pull it out the back a little and secure it), and over time, the teeth shift into the preferred position.
Reply:First of all they create space by removing 2-3 teeth as is required depends from case to case then they fasten the teeth with the wire taking the help of the last fixed teeth in our mouth.thus they succeed in pulling the teeth inside from outside of your mouth.Due to pressure the bone of the teeth gets adjusted to the new position. Thus it happens.
Reply:Also the wires are different gages in thickness and different shapes also. Attaching rubber bands at different angles also move the teeth. So do %26quot;head gears%26quot;. OH the memories.

Teeth Braces Pain?
hi, my 17 year old son just had braces put on his teeth today. he fell this past weekend while ice skating and injured his front teeth. now the pain from the braces are unbearable. can someone please tell me something to do for him tonight for the pain?
Teeth Braces Pain?
First, i%26#039;d call the orthodontist. After, i%26#039;d give him 2 ibreprofens or any pain medication tonight. Or you can give him a Ibreprofen (dont know if it is spelled right) PM which helps the pain and makes him drowsy so he can sleep tonight. Make sure he dosen%26#039;t eat any hard foods until you%26#039;ve talked to the orthodontics/dentist.
Reply:give your son some pain relievers like Advil or get a prescription for Vicadin.
Reply:Ibuprofin works pretty good. My doctor once gave me a prescription for 1000 mg. That%26#039;s a pretty heavy dose and I wouldn%26#039;t take that much without a Drs ok. but I usually take 600 mg as a regular dose. It will help him sleep also.
Reply:deff. give him some pain medication. Neproxin is very helpful, as well as ibprofen, but advil or any other med. will do fine. I had a similar experience. the pain was very intense but it goes away after a few days. if it continues or the pain gets worse, call the orthodontist asap.
Give him a sleeping pill at nights or med. that will make him a little drowsy so he can get some sleep and take his mind off of it for a while. hope he feels better soon!!!
Reply:let him drink medicine your question sucks though

Wisdom teeth,braces,and a cavity :[?
Yes... I have all three! :[ I think I am going to have my wisdom teeth removed soon and today I discovered that I have a cavity. I also need braces. Would it be possible that when they put me under to remove my wisdom teeth they fix my cavity and put on my braces? I know it will be painful but I%26#039;m already 16 and I don%26#039;t want to wait any longer to get my braces!
Wisdom teeth,braces,and a cavity :[?
ok, cavity...never had one, but they are done by dentists.
braces, they dont%26#039; hurt to put them on...they hurt later that day, and they won%26#039;t put them on until after your wisdom teeth are healed. Orthodontists do that.
Wisdom teeth, Oral surgens do that and how much pain you%26#039;re in depends on the doctor. I had 4 done at once, 2 partially impacted and the only time they hurt was the next day when I was in the car. Advice....sleep as close to sitting up as you can, if the doc offers prednisone (spelling) then take it, it%26#039;s a steroid to keep swelling down. I also got two valuims to relax me so i could sleep the night before and be relaxed going in the morning. I was put to sleep during the procedure. To be honest, my pain at any given point was never higher then a 1 out of 10. DO NOT stick your tongue in the holes....my friend did that and was in pain for 2 weeks cuz she was preventing the holes from healing. I only took 3 of the pain pills the doctor gave me. one before the local numbing wore off and then two the next day when i got out of the car.
Reply:when your older your teeth will be beautiful
Reply:they don%26#039;t put ou under to do your braces it doesn%26#039;t hurt 0_o
Reply:Braces and cavities don%26#039;t hurt, so no worries. I haven%26#039;t had my wisdom teeth pulled yet, so can%26#039;t help you there. But it will all be worth it when you have these perfect, white teeth. Hope this helps! :)
Reply:No usually they will schedule you for several torture sessions in a row.
Reply:Usually the people who take out wisdom teeth are oral surgeons and do it in a setup that does not have drilling stuff on hand. If you really feel you can%26#039;t take it with modern local anesthesia, look around for a dentist who uses gas for ordinary procedures. Orthodontists do braces and I don%26#039;t know if they do dental work - I use Monarch Dental and they advertise both and don%26#039;t do wisdom teeth.
Reply:ugg...I just got my Wisdom teeth pulled on Monday...This is hell. Believe me you do NOT want to get all three done at the same time. I would wait a month or so between each one. But hey if you have some really weird thrill issue and like going through hell....go for it.

Wisdom teeth & braces?
i have to have my top wisdom teeth takin out for my braces but if they dont do it before my braces are put on, can they still do it when they are on? i just wanna know if its possible
Wisdom teeth %26amp; braces?
You CAN have your wisdom teeth removed while your braces are on.
Reply:they won%26#039;t do it when you have braces on. You have to wait until you get them off. This is what happened to me and they just waited until my braces came off.
The oral surgeon WILL NOT do it because they do not want to be liable for breaking any of your orthodontic equipment. So yes they probably can but they prefer not to.

Teeth/Braces Question?
I asked another question, asking if it is true that you get white/brown spots on ur teeth if you don%26#039;t brush when you have braces, and the answer was that the color around your teeth change.
So, if you whiten your teeth, will it go back to normal? Because I am getting my braces off soon and I wanna know if I can fix it if that happens.
Teeth/Braces Question?
Well I think that the discoloration is from the glue they use to stick on the brackets.
I have some spots that are a little darker than the rest of my teeth. Most of the spots did wear away after a few good brushing and cleanings.
I do have one or 2 teeth that still have it but it is not noticeable unless you really stare at my teeth.
Reply:Yep :)
Reply:your teeth will eventually all be the same, itll just take time, just brush your teeth really well, 2 times a day
Reply:Well I think if it does happen....which it probably won%26#039;t, I%26#039;m sure you were brushing fine!...but if it does and you whiten I would think that the spots would just get whiter and the tooth will get whiter....each will be whiter but there will still be a contrast. I%26#039;d say the best bet is to ask your orthodontist when you get your braces off what he/she recommends. Good luck! And enjoy....it feels glorious to get your braces off!!!!!!!!

Teeth braces?
is it possible around the cheshire area to have like clear braces,or hidden braces fitted to adults teeth and roughly what sort of cost would i be looking at? i no it all depends on the severity of teeth but just inquiring in what places do such work in the cheshire area!! i live near chester so if possible is there any clinincs that do such work?
Teeth braces?
I had clear braces removed last year, they cost £2500 but that included a lot of prep work first. My friends were £2000. Worth every penny though i LOVE my new smile. I made an appointment with my dentist and she referred me, think you need a referrel anyway so go along and ask, it has done wonders for my confidence.
Reply:I had braces on the NHS and my Authodontist (?) told me that if I had gone privately it would have cost me about £2500.
I had the fixed %26quot;train track%26quot; type big braces lol. I liked %26#039;em though, I had colourful bands put on %26#039;em, they were cool!!
I think you can get clear ones.
Dunno about hidden ones.
If your teeth aren%26#039;t too bad you could get a retainer which you can take in and out which is great for just wearing at night for example.
But as for where to go to get them put in - I don%26#039;t know sorry.
Your regular Dentist will tell you though.
Reply:I recently investigated adult braces - the orthodontist I saw offered me some amazing braces that fit BEHIND the teeth so no one can see you wearing them at all. They are just as effective as traintracks, but way more expensive. Up to £5k all in for uppers and lowers. If you%26#039;ve got the funds, it%26#039;s a great option. Don%26#039;t know if they do that around you, but check it out.
Reply:invasaline if thats how you spell it. Try about 5000 to 6000 bucks
Reply:If you go to our message board, you will find lots of people in the UK who have braces and could answer your question.
I think that the cost of braces in the UK is about the same as it is in the USA, which is roughly $5,000 US for a normal 2-year treatment. That of course will be different if you have NHS treatment done instead of private.
Reply:You want to check out Invisilign braces, cost a bit more than regular but totally invisible try www.invisilign.com no list of dentists but you could try googling %26quot;invisilign chester%26quot;

Upper teeth braces?
About how much would it cost to get upper teeth braces? I%26#039;ve gone to the orthodontist last summer and was told full mouth braces would cost $5600. I%26#039;m just considering doing just my upper teeth now because of the cost and because it%26#039;s the big gap in my upper two front teeth that I%26#039;m most worried about (I have smaller gaps in my lower teeth). So for those who have had upper teeth braces or anyone else who knows the answer, how much did it cost?.
Upper teeth braces?
depends if you have insurance
Reply:Idk how much it cost but when I was in like 3rd grade I got them and still to this day were a retaineer so remember that there is other things other than just the cost of that btw I am 13

Upper teeth braces?
Is it possible just to get braces for your upper teeth? I have a diastema (teeth gap) that I don%26#039;t like. I%26#039;ve gone to the Orthodonthist and was told the cost for full braces (whole mouth) would be about $5600. I initially wanted to do my whole mouth (top and bottom teeth) because I do have gaps on my lower teeth as well, but they%26#039;re much smaller and less noticeable, and they never show when I smile, so I%26#039;m not really bothered by those. So to save money, now I%26#039;m just considering getting braces for my upper teeth to close that gap only. Has anyone ever done this? About how much will it cost?...maybe half of $5600 (if I%26#039;m just doing the upper part)? I know I%26#039;ll have to go to the Ortho again to ask, but just wondering if it%26#039;ll be possible first! Thanks
Upper teeth braces?
I do not think there is a way to put braces on a few upper teeth to close the gap. Then you will have the gap between other teeth.. My son wares braces and it is a long story. If Dr. starts moving teeth only on upper side, your bite will change and you will suffer more. I%26#039;ve heard that a lot of dentists (not orthodontists) now making braces and it is much cheaper, like half the price. Do some research.
Reply:Your question sounds like this is definitely out of your pocket for cost and no matter what, you WANT to get this done... between figuring out if you should do it and figuring out the price, I can%26#039;t help you on the doing part but I can help you out with the affordability no matter if it%26#039;s 1/2 or a whole mouth getting braces on. As long as you haven%26#039;t gotten any form of braces on your mouth at the minute you read this, then go to: www.beneficialhealthplans.com to see how that program can help you with a reduced pricing on the work on your mouth. Even if you went through with the braces already, visit the website for future help in prices.... it%26#039;s a great program.

Top Teeth Braces!?
okay so, im going to to dentist tomorrow...
and they always want me to get braces, but the thing is my bottom teeth are COMPLETELY straight, the dentist even said so, but my top teeth have these two minor spaces on one side of my mouth, but the other side is straight. but im kinda insecure about the spaces, so i kinda want braces...
so after all that is said and done Two questions:
1. Can i get braces on just my top teeth
2. Since the space is minor... can i jsut have the braces for like 6 or seven months as opposed to a year and a half?
Top Teeth Braces!?
I just got my braces off but my teeth were completely messed up...
But I had a friend with the same problem and she got her braces on the top for 6 months and then got them off. GL
Reply:You can get braces on the top only.
The length of time it takes to move the teeth to the desired location varies from person to person. The average is from 18 months to 30 months for children and may be longer for adults. The time depends on the difficulty of the case, the amount of room available, the distance the teeth must travel, the cooperativity of the patient and the bone and the age of the patient.
Reply:Yes, you can get them on the top only. The duration that you will have to wear them just depends on how long it takes for your teeth to straighten out.
Reply:yes for both questions.

Braces..teeth moving.?
OK ill give you the low down. I had just got my braces on 2 weeks ago, had the wire switched got new color rubber band things on and just got the rear things that hold the head gear in. and I just noticed after I got the new wire on that one tooth is becoming loose, it just started gaping inbetween.
any ideas?
Braces..teeth moving.?
my teeth felt loose when i had braces. it%26#039;s just your teeth shifting in your gums. cuz if they weren%26#039;t a little loose, then they couldn%26#039;t shift. but if you feel that it%26#039;s not normal, then see your dentist.
Reply:Go to your dentist and ask him what%26#039;s up.
Reply:my friend has the headgear and braces and the headgear manuel said that, that will happen the molars will begin getting loose but the tooth will probably heal since you have braces.

Braces/Teeth?
I got braces July 2006. Now its November 2007 and my orthodontist say the only reason I can not get them off is that one tooth still hasn%26#039;t grown in, though it was taken out during May/June of this year. (Its the 1st bicuspid) Any reason?
Braces/Teeth?
i have had braces and i think that it is best to ask your orthodontist this question no one on here can answer it properly.

Braces teeth pain?
ok i got braces today...and my teeth are hurting bad...for some reason especially my front 4....they almost feel loose but they aren%26#039;t...what is up with that...oh and how long after they get put on can u expect lots of pain
Braces teeth pain?
it%26#039;ll take some time to get used to them. trust me. that feeling you have should subside within a month, give or take some days. it%26#039;s cuz your teeth are being moved. so anyways, for a couple weeks, start off by eating stuff that you don%26#039;t have to chew much and gradually go up to foods that you can chew. that%26#039;ll give your teeth time to adjust to the pressure of the braces and chewing. also do this everytime they tighten the braces (they do this so you%26#039;re teeth straightening will progress). trust me, i%26#039;ve gone through that not too long ago. so again, just give it time and that feeling will subside.
also, you%26#039;re teeth won%26#039;t really hurt on their own. it%26#039;s just when they meet when you talk or chew. i don%26#039;t really know why, they just do. (i had a lisp for a while when i had my braces! haha!) but again, like with the food, it just takes time to get used to. after first getting braces, you%26#039;re teeth will be pressured, and talking/chewing makes it feel worse, and that%26#039;s the pain you will feel. but don%26#039;t worry. the pain isn%26#039;t %26quot;coma-inducing%26quot;. you%26#039;ll be able to withstand it (unless you can%26#039;t tolerate pain at all).
Reply:you will feel sore for about a week , maybe longer since you jus tgot them. it will progressively get better though.
Reply:they feel like that because you just got that and your teeth are moving!
Reply:Like a week at first. But it will get better.
Some advice. Wear your retainer... you will regret it if you dont.
Braces are the best thing that happened to me. So the pain was worth it.
Reply:I never got pain. :)
Honestly, I miss my braces.
They should only last about a week/couple days
Gradually getting less painful.
Reply:I remember that pain! Your teeth will hurt for a few days each time you go to the orthodontist. A painkiller, like Advil, really helps.
Reply:From my experience, braces always hurt the worst during the first week or 2. This is when you start to get used to this outside pressure on your teeth. After that, it doesn%26#039;t get worse, but you do get periodic tightenings, which is less painful than the first week. Hope your teeth turn out nice and even!
Reply:Take advil or motrin every 4 to 6 hours, it really helps alot! The pain will be bad for about 2 days.. and then each time you go back for an adjustment, I recommend taking the ibuprofen before you go to the orthodontist, that way you have nipped the pain before you get it..
dont%26#039; worry.. you will survive.. those teeth hurt because they are moving so you have a super smile someday soon.
Keep smiling and don%26#039;t forget to floss.. now that is a pain!
Reply:Probably for the next 1-2 days you%26#039;ll feel pain. Its like that every time you get them tightened. My advice is to take one or two advils right BEFORE you go to orthodontist, then by the time your done the pain will be less severe. Just stick it out kid and just picture yourself in like 5 years (probably less) with a nice set of pearly whites!!
Reply:take some tylonel or other type of painkiller. eat soft stuff (like smoothies, etc)
braces should hurt for about a week or 2 after u get them. i had braces for a while. I HATED THEM!! they would make these small adjustments and my teeth would hurt bad.
Reply:your teeth are loose your braces are forcibly moving them...
hurting is good it means there is progress... it will go away in about a week until then eat foods that don%26#039;t require chewing
no pain no gain
Reply:its normal cause youre not used to it. give it a week or two
Reply:well, i usually had pain the first few days after each appointment that the orthodontist tightened them. take same tylenol and only drink milkshakes or smoothies right after. i know the pain; it%26#039;s sore and throbbing! but it will all be worth it in the end! :)
Reply:I had braces for 5 years and I hated going to the orthdontist for them to tighten them up. Your teeth hurt because they are being forced to move to where they need to be. I would eat soup as the pain can be real intense and took advil for the pain. Wait till the start putting in the elastics that go from the front of your mouth to the back . It hurts something fierce. The pain should subside in a couple of days to a slight pressure and nothing at all in a week.
Reply:Ok, you%26#039;re taking this one from a pro. I%26#039;ve been in these badboys for 9 years...more time in them that out of them (in my whole life...it%26#039;s sad. My teeth aren%26#039;t crooked, I just grow so dang fast.)
It%26#039;s really not that bad. It%26#039;s pretty intense pain for a day or two...and then moderate pain on the third or fourth day, and on the fifth day it%26#039;s usually fine. I suggest eating soft foods for your meals (applesauce, pasta, etc.) You won%26#039;t be able to eat anything hard those first few days.
You can expect this cycle after you get your braces re-tightened too.
Reply:i have braces now..and i remember when i first got them i had the same loose feeling....its b/c the braces are casing ur teeth to shift and move so it can be straight...it feels tight in between ur teeth but loose altogther...dont worry this is normal and it happenes to everyone...it will be ok after 2 to 3 days ..a week at the most...for the first time u get braces.. the pain that is,,,
for me it was 2 days...and slowly i was able to eat normal again...u know if u cant eat normally if u try to bite ur fingertip and it hurts like hell...sry abt the rambling...but i hopee this helped. after a while when u get used to the braces.. it wont bother u at all..u may get a tight or loose feeling everytime u go and get ur braces tightened..
Reply:It%26#039;s the feeling of your teeth being moved and tight that is making your front four teeth feel loose.
The extreme pain should end in about three days, but it will continue to bother you for a week or two. Then, you%26#039;ll probably get used to the feeling of braces. :) Hope you feel better.
Reply:The pain can last quite a while for some people. My sister got them the day before Thanksgiving...haha, pretty not cool seeing as she couldn%26#039;t eat. They do hurt though, from what I hear, I haven%26#039;t gotten them yet but am getting them over spring break...ah!
Reply:its natural for braces to hurt for the first week or so. It will go away soon, but for the pain drink really cold water as often as you can. i think it kinda numbs your mouth a bit. I really dunno, but it works.
If the pain is really bad then try panadol or nuerofen.
Reply:mine only hurt for 2 days.... try to eat some mashed potatoes or mushy things... no gum or anything... try PBhttp://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?...
Reply:Ohhhhh man... I remember that pain. I feel for ya. It will be pretty sore for the first few days, but you will get used to it. I know that%26#039;s a weird thing to say, but the idea of braces is to move your teeth, so they are kind of moving all the time. You get used to it, don%26#039;t worry. Take some tylenol, and if the pain doesn%26#039;t at least lessen after a few days, call the orthodontist and ask if maybe it should still be that bad or if they can prescribe some painkillers.
Good luck!
Reply:they feel loose because they are getting pulled to another position. i rember when i had them the first month the pain was horrible. but after the pain was hardly noticeable. so you well get used to it.
Reply:i give it a week and make sure to take pain killers, the pain will go away thoug and once you get them off you will look sooooo fine. like i had my in seven grade and got them off at the end of seventh and i got so many complaments, like the guys with fall in love with you. ahah it worked for me.but seriously teeth are a main attraction.
Reply:u shouldnt hav pain too long if it really hurts take advil i know it kinda sucks but think how great ur teeth will look after lol
Reply:It will be sore/uncomfortable for the next 3 days or so. Take some Tylenol or Ibuprofen. Chew gum to help relieve the soreness. I%26#039;ve had braces on for about 7 months now and everytime it gets tightened (monthly), it gets sore for about 2-3 days
Reply:because the braces is a new thing for your teeth and they are putting pressure on them, you fill feel sore and it might be quite painful depending on the condition of your teeth. so for two or three days, don%26#039;t eat stick foods like caramel or hard foods like chips because it might hurt a bit. so you might want to switch to softer foods like cereal with milk, and puddings, and such.
Reply:your teeth are hurting cus they r moving
your not used to it so its weird
and you can expect lots of pain if you dont take pain killers
XD
but eventually you will get used to it
and it will be so normal that when you get them off it feels just as weird as when you got them put on
Reply:a week but it should stop in a week:}
Reply:After each adjustment you should expect 2 or 3 days of tenderness. The first day obviously will be the worst. Take some Motrin and eat softer foods. I don%26#039;t have the most fond memories of the pain involved. But it wasn%26#039;t drastic. It was more of a dull aching. But I am glad I got it done. As an adult, I know for certain how much of an impact your teeth can have. First impressions last for a long time. And a nice smile helps a lot. You%26#039;ll get through it. Just take the proper amount of pain killer recomended on the bottle and don%26#039;t think about it.
Reply:urg i know what you mean! I got my braces on like 6 months ago. The first week they are sore and its hard to eat but like after a week or two they really don%26#039;t hurt. You get used to them ,and then when you have to get them tightened they are a little sore for a couple days. Ya and when I first got mine it felt like my teeth were like gonna fall out. its normal.
But ya braces suck!!!!
Reply:they feel loose because your teeth are moving when that first happened to me it scared me but then my orthodontist explained it to me and with the how long to expect pain it really differs between people and what kind of braces you have like my friend connor his hurt for like a week and a half but mine only hurt for barely 2 days like i said it just depends on your orthodontist, the kind of brackets and wires he uses, etc.

XD
but eventually you will get used to it
and it will be so normal that when you get them off it feels just as weird as when you got them put on
Reply:a week but it should stop in a week:}
